Ex POW Memorial Anniversary 2009

On Sunday 8th February 2009 Senior Cadets and Officers attended the fifth anniversary service of the Ex POW memorial in Ballarat.

The ceremony was conducted with many mixed emotions, the Victoria Group were delighted to have been invited to participate in the very moving ceremony, having also provided Senior Cadets at the inaugural dedication ceremony in 2004, but we were also very mindful that Victoria was suffering through some of the highest temperature in living history and the devastating bush fires that are racing out of control in many many areas of the state.

After suffering through temperature of 46.4 on Saturday the Group made the 2 hour trip to Ballarat on a day that provided intermittent showers and temperatures in the low 20’s, however, the day was made more worthwhile having the Cadets involved in the meeting and greeting the many dignitaries helping to seat the guests and arranging the handling an issue of the wreaths.

The Cadet members came from the Ballarat, Berwick, Cranbourne, Doncaster, Ringwood and Waverley Squadrons, the highlight of their day was being able to speak with and a have a photo taken with  Air Commodore Ken Watson, Commander Air Force Training Group he was representing Primarily the Chief of the Defence Force Angus Houston AC, AFC and also the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshall Mark Binskin, AM.
