Illawarra Flying Weekend
Recently the Australian Air League’s Air Activities Centre (Camden) visited the Albion Park Boys and Girls Squadron at Illawarra Regional Airport for a weekend of flying.
The weekend started with the cadets completing the theory for their Airmanship badge 4 on the Saturday, and then on the Sunday the cadets took air experience flights over the Illawarra. The weather was excellent and provided great flying conditions, with the Air League’s two Piper Warrior aircraft VH-UNL and VH-LRA they were able to complete a total of 11 flights during the day. Most of the cadets managed to enjoy two flights on the day, one flight to complete their Airmanship badge and the second going towards their Air Experience badge.
The day was made even more special with the NSW Fire Brigade performing aerial fire bombing over the weekend with around 15 aircraft down one side of runway 08. Runway 34 was the active runway so it made for a very interesting and busy flying day not to mention providing a lot of entertainment for the Cadets!
If you haven’t been flying with the cadets lately we can highly recommend making a weekend of it. The response from the cadets was extremely positive, before the weekend was over the cadets were asking when was the next flying day. A special thanks goes to all of the Air Activities Centre Officers and Pilots that helped make the day a success.
