Southport Squadron – Connecting with Kids Program
Cadets and Officers of Southport Squadron attended one of the larger Gold Coast Libraries recently to conduct a 3 hour holiday workshop of Air League activities for kids on school holidays.
Part of the Gold Coast City Council GC Libraries Kids Program, the Squadron’s participation was widely promoted in print and web – and they arrived to discover some very impressive posters promoting the event throughout the library.
Promoting both operating Gold Coast Squadrons in the process, Southport Squadron conducted a series of hands-on activities for the participants that included flight simulator challenges, Pin the Parts on a Plane, essential knots, the “Youth on Target” paper plane game, two minute kites, basic drill and some general coordination games.
The activity area and entry was also strategically embellished with new QLD Group format display posters to raise awareness with participants and passers-by alike.
Very positive feedback was received from participants, parents and the supervising library staffer – and the Squadron is optimistic about the potential for some prospective new youth members.
