On Monday 27th October, the Lilydale Squadron remembered the Airline disaster that occurred on Mt Dandenong in 1938 when the ANA DC2 ‘KYEMMA’, crashed, killing all occupants. It still remains the worst aviation accident in Victoria’s history. The Squadron marched to the site led by a Piper.

A ceremony was held. As many of the victims were WW1 veterans, the last post was played by a Bugler, the Australian and Civil Aviation flags lowered. The Piper played hymns while the Cadets and onlookers reflected on the tragedy. The pipes sounded eerie in the mountain setting. The Cadets laid a wreath, read the names out and a bell rung for each one.
The aftermath of this crash lead to many changes in Australian air safety procedures.

Earlier in the day, the OC of the Squadron met with the State Premier Denis Napthine and briefed him on the Squadron and the airline disaster. He was most interested to learn about it.
