Dick Smith Delivers Special Trophy
Renowned Australian entrepreneur Dick Smith flew his helicopter to Camden Airport to visit members of the Camden Air League Squadron and present the inaugural Laurie McIver Memorial Trophy. Laurie McIver ran a pilot training school at the old Hoxton Park airport and taught Dick Smith how to fly, they became friends and went on numerous adventures. Laurie died in 1995.
Mr Smith while accompanied by Paulette McIver, widow of Mr McIver, presented the inaugural trophy to Sergeant Lachlan Abernethy who best demonstrated and upheld the values of the Australian Boys Air League.
“It’s a real thrill to receive an award from such a great Australian”, Lachlan, 15, said.
Lachlan is a trainee pilot from Camden Squadron and is learning to fly the Air League’s Cessna and Piper Cherokee aircraft out of Camden Airport.
