The Australian Air League’s very own Corporal Blake Tickner from Southern Highlands Squadron had a great honour on Saturday the 19th of October. He was selected to perform in the Edinburgh Military Tattoo at ANZ Stadium. Corporal Tickner is also a member of the Highlands Pipes and Drums, their Drum Major Karen Tabram asked if Blake would like to join them in the opening parade on Saturday night. A big achievement for a 14-year-old!

Blake has been drumming since the age of 10 and he has always had a natural talent for rhythm which he must have inherited from his Mother and Grandfather who are also Drummers.

After his performance, Blake joined his family in the crowd to enjoy the rest of the show. A highlight was definitely the Lochiel Marching Drill Team. We could learn a lot from these ladies and their marching techniques, they were phenomenal.

The Tattoo comprised of bands and performers of 14 nations from around the world, consisting of 1,521 performers, the largest number of performers in the Tattoo’s 69-year history. Celebrating Australia’s place in history and its links with allies. Including, for the first time ever, acts from Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Vanuatu. It was a great night for all involved and something Blake will remember forever.
