Gawler’s South Australian Wing Squadron branch enjoyed a strong showing at the organisations’s recent presentation night, also featuring Parafield and Port Adelaide groups. Held at UniSA’s Mawson Centre, the presentation night featured special guests Gawler Mayot Brian Sambell, Daryl Trigg representing the Adelaide Soaring Club and Rob Moore, representing the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators.

Preston Holman has his head in the clouds – and that’s exactly where he wants to be after being nominated for a state-wide aviation award. 

“I love the freedom of getting up in the air,” the 13 year old said.

Georgina Ball achieved a trifecta when she was named the Australian Air League’s national female Cadet of the Year in Melbourne last month.

The award followed the Gawler Airfield Squadron cadet winning the South Australian title after first taking out the local branch award.

Cadets at the Australian Air League Sunbury Squadron, including Leading Cadet Nikita Angove (pictured), finally got a chance to fly in an unpowered glider late last month.

“They loved the day, Some of the kids were saying “This sure beats Movie World”,” said Squadron Lieutenant Mike Diamond.

Bundaberg Squadron of the Australian Air League has been boosted by a generous donation from Halcol Energy. Squadron OC Ceciley Stewart said the donation of $5000 worth of solar panels would enable the Squadron to spend more of its resources on the cadets instead of its electricity bill.
