Building on recent successes, the Gold Coast Squadron stood proud amongst over 580 uniformed members, including Cadets from across Australia, at the Australian Air League showcase national gathering in Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast, earlier this month. The extremely active Squadron has also scored big funding wins in the last week, with a divisional donation from Cr Grant Pforr (Division 3) and a $27,608 grant toward equipment & training from the Gambling and Community Benefit Fund.

Twenty-two Cadets, and two Officers, of Gold Coast Squadron joined others from Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, A.C.T. and Tasmania in serious competition at the Air League Review on Saturday 1^st October, and were watched by many more spectators, including family, VIPs and members of the public at the well publicised biennial event.

Gold Coast Cadets submitted strong entries in a range of competitions, including ceremonial drill, flag party, education, model aircraft, glider and essay competitions – coming away with wins & places in Chuck Glider, Plastic Kit & Diorama categories. The local Squadron, part of the large Queensland Group host contingent, was closely involved in preparations for the Review – as well as a social, team-building program on the Sunday following for Queensland Squadrons; accompanied by a Squadron from Tasmania.

The Gold Coast youth group has also enjoyed many recent triumphs including coming a close 2^nd at the Queensland Group Review, displaying at the recent Gold Coast Science Fair and growing to an impressive membership of 31 in its first year. In an amazing coincidence, in the same week as the AAL Review, the Squadron learned that it has been successful in receiving the divisional funds and huge GCBF grant.

“The Australian Air League, a uniformed organization for boys & girls (8-18), is actively committed to equipping Cadets with life and leadership skills, while providing opportunities for them to explore pathways into aviation, either as a career or hobby”.
