Inaugural Tales from the Cockpit Takes Off!

The Forest Lake Squadrons’ inaugural “Tales from the Cockpit” Fundraiser and Cocktail Reception held on the 20th of October, 2018 was an evening filled with interesting guest speakers, great entertainment and camaraderie.

Chief Commissioner and Executive Officer Ian Rickards OAM and Mrs. Cheryl Rickards were in attendance and during his presentation Mr. Rickards congratulated the Squadron on their innovative thinking in creating an event that not only raised funds for the Squadron, but also raised awareness of the Australian Air League.

Commissioner James Dixon MSA, along with Group Executive Commissioner Todd Oakley and Group Commissioner Di Ballard were also in attendance. Mr. Oakley acknowledged the hard work of the squadron and the cadets, officers and parents who are part of the Drum Corps. He added that the performance by the Drum Corps reflected their commitment.

The event was strongly supported by the community. Guest speakers for the evening included Mr. Nigel Fotheringham, Pilot for Angel Flight who spoke about how Angel Flight helps people in remote areas and the impact this has on their lives. Major Nathan Coyle, Pilot for the ADF shared his tales from of the cockpit of a Black Hawk as a pilot during the Toowoomba floods.

In addition, the corporate community also supported the event with Archerfield Airport being the Major Sponsor, Mirragin Aerospace Consulting sponsoring the entertainment – Mon Ché Vocal Quartet.

Prizes for the auction and raffles where provided by iFly Gold Coast, Jon Le Court Mount Ommaney and Southern Skies Aviation. The desserts which were a feast for the eyes and tastebuds we provided by squadron parent Susan Yap owner of The Pink Artisan.

It is through the support of the League, the community and our squadron family and friends that we can achieve our goals of providing more opportunities for our cadets.

What is now the ANNUAL “Tales from the Cockpit” Fundraiser and Cocktail Reception will be held on the 26th of October, 2019 at the historic Victoria Barracks, Petrie Terrace, Brisbane.
