Victoria Group Air Activities Camp

Seven young aviation enthusiasts recently took a major step forward in their pilot training during the Australian Air League Victoria Group Air Activities Camp, held at Bacchus Marsh Airfield. Designed to combine practical flight experience with fundamental theory, the camp provided cadets with a solid foundation in powered flight. Flight training throughout the event was delivered in partnership with Melbourne West Flying Training. Over the course of the camp, each cadet logged four hours of flight time, putting theoretical knowledge into direct practice.

Learning extended well beyond the cockpit. In addition to flight time, the Australian Air League conducted focused ground school sessions covering core aviation principles. Cadets completed theory requirements for both the Air Activities Powered Class 3 and Air Activities Powered Class 2 badges. The camp was also an opportunity to provide practical instruction, including:

  • Pre-flight inspections
  • Aircraft engines and ancillaries
  • Meteorology

Every participant demonstrated enthusiasm and commitment, resulting in a 100% pass rate across the badge qualifications.

For several cadets, the camp provided the opportunity attempt and successfully pass the Recreation Aviation Australia (RAAus) pre-solo assessment. The highlight of the camp came when Squadron Sergeant Willow Plenty achieved her first solo flight.

The success of the Victoria Group Air Activities Camp highlights the Australian Air League’s ongoing commitment to building practical skills, teamwork, and leadership among young Australians. With four new flight hours logged, key badges earned, and a good working knowledge of aviation safety, all seven cadets return to their squadrons closer to their ultimate flight goals and achieved the Air League’s mission of Fun, Flying and Friendship.
