Air Activities Summer Flying Camp 2025

Over 9 days in January, the NSW Group of the Australian Air League held its annual summer flying camp at their Air Activities Centre located at Camden Airport, southwest of Sydney. The camp is designed to allow the young cadets to kick-start their flying training and has been held annually for over 20 years, with many past students going on to exciting careers in aviation.

NSW Air Activities Flying Camp Summer 2025

This year, 22 student pilots aged from 14 years attended the 9-day camp, coming from 9 Air League Squadrons across the state. The camp’s cadets had a wide range of flying experiences; for some, this was their first camp where they could experience the taste of flight. In contrast, for others, it was an opportunity to build on their training from previous camps and to catch up with friends made from prior years.

Unfortunately, the weather is the one thing we still can’t control and after a few days of fine weather, the camp was hampered by several rainy and overcast days, preventing the cadets from completing as many flights as they had initially intended. Despite the interruptions, they still made the most of the opportunity and completed 89 flights and 91 hours of flying during the week – not a bad effort despite almost two full days lost to rain!

This included two first solos – congratulations go to Leading Cadet Jensen Reynolds of Manly Sqn and Leading Cadet Griffin Coombes of Marrickville Sqn.
