Archie’s Story

Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) is a rare, aggressive, and currently incurable childhood brain cancer that affects approximately 20 Australian children each year. Due to the location of the tumour in the brainstem, standard treatment options remain severely limited, presenting immense physical and emotional challenges for young patients and their families.

Among those confronting this diagnosis is Archie McDonnell, who has demonstrated remarkable courage, resilience, and determination following his DIPG diagnosis 18 months. Despite the significant hurdles he and his family face daily, Archie continues to find purpose and joy in his passion for aviation, aircraft, and flying.

Archie’s positive attitude, strength, and love of flight serve as an inspiration to everyone around him. The Australian Air League is proud to recognise Archie as part of our community and to offer our ongoing friendship and support to him and his family.

A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Archie and his family, helping ensure they can focus on spending quality time together and creating meaningful, lasting experiences. We encourage all members, friends, and supporters to learn more about Archie’s journey, raise awareness of DIPG, and consider donating to assist the family during this time.
